1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds…
The writer of the epistle to the Hebrews tells us how God has remarkably revealed Himself at “various times and in various ways” but in “these last days” Christ is the only way God chooses to reveal Himself and His heart to us. In Christ, God purposely moves you out of the shadow of the Old Covenant into the light of the New Covenant. In doing so, God changes the way you relate to Him and He with you.
What a comfort it is to know that you are enjoying a privilege that the patriarchs and prophets and kings of old could only dream of and hope for. While the gospel was a veiled mystery to them, it is now unveiled for your discovery.
The gospel tells us that you need to do but one thing: sit and rest in Christ.
The epistle to the Hebrews tells us that Christ has been “appointed heir of all things” by God Himself. It means God the Father has given everything, including you and me, to Jesus His Son.
This revelation gives us a reason for much rejoicing.
You belong in and with Christ regardless of what you do or have done, what you are struggling with, and what is causing you pain. If you can believe that Christ is the appointed heir of all things, how can you not believe Christ will also freely give you all things? (Romans 8:32) Christ does not need your cajoling to do something for you. Christ is always more willing to give than what we are willing to receive. Catch hold of this truth. And it will end all doubt and discouragement.
