14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
Hebrews 2:14-15 New International Version

Fear is one of Satan’s favourite weapons, one of which he frequently uses against us.

We, however, need not be afraid or dismayed, for Christ has already fought our battle and won our victory. When we align our minds and hearts to the truth, we will walk in peace in every area of our lives.

Do you struggle with any fears, anxieties or insecurities?

When we allow our feelings to dictate our faith and trust in Jesus, we will be confused and misled into focusing on our problems and take our eyes off the Lord.

Instead of struggling through your fears and trying to figure out on your own, go and hear the gospel again. The victory is already yours. You are not required to defeat the devil, but only to stand against him. The gospel of God’s grace in Christ is God’s power made perfect in your weakness. It is always more than enough to see you through the dark days as if the devil is gaining ground on you.

You can only overcome Satan with the truth.

The truth is Jesus came to deliver us from the fear of death and free us from the bondage that fear and death have over our lives. If you don’t know this truth or if you don’t act on this truth, the devil can turn and twist you to his purpose without much difficulty.

Move into what Christ has already done and receive from Him so that we will not live ignorant of what the devil is capable of and what we can do to resist and overcome him. Instead of running in circles, learn to rest in God’s love for us—for perfect love casts out all fears.

God’s love produces faith and boldness for you to remain standing in Christ of Satan’s attacks. And the Holy Spirit who is in you is far greater and far more powerful than any attack from the devil. Since Christ has overcome Satan on our behalf, we too can overcome every tribulation, trial and temptation.

Application: What is the Holy Spirit saying to me from today’s scripture reading? What is it saying about God and me and helping me in my Christian walk?
