According to the Apostle Paul, Jesus our Great High Priest is superior to all the high priests of the Old Covenant (Hebrews 4:14-5:6). Why is this so? Year after year, the high priest needed to atone for the sins of the people. Jesus our Great High Priest, however, paid the one perfect sacrifice that took away that which kept us from God and opened the way for us to the Father.
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Grace did something that the Law could not do. It brings you into such an intimacy with our Father God that you can always come freely and fearlessly into His Presence. This is because there is no longer any reminder of sin (Hebrews 10:3) for you are sanctified forever through the high priestly offering of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 10:10).
God is not trying to get something from you. God is trying to get something to you; that is, He did everything for you in Christ so that you can always obtain His mercy and find grace in your “time of need”. The Greek word for “time of need” is eukairos which means “at every opportunity in every season”. As such, God will always meet you with the providence of His grace in whatever circumstance or situation you are in.
