3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.
Ephesians 1:3-4 English Standard Version
In Christ, God has given us every possible blessing for our growth and benefit.
You cannot be more blessed right now than at any point of your life. God doesn’t wait until you are more spiritual or more faithful in your friendship with Him in order to bless you. God has blessed you because He has chosen you in Christ to be His own.
God’s idea of blessing is not the same as ours. We feel blessed because today turned out well, we might have gotten a promotion in our job or we found an empty car parking lot when we were in a rush to get one. These good things are fine, and they are blessings but they are not the blessings God had in mind for us.
God didn’t send His beloved Son into our world and save us for us to store up plenty for the future, enjoy our fine homes and eat great food. God saved us to bless us so that we are made whole in Christ.
Blessing is a form of empowerment.
Know that you are chosen by God. Even before the creation of the world or even after the fall of creation gives perspective to how you should be living and what you should be doing with your life. Your existence and being comes from God. When you learn to discover your worth in God’s eyes, you will find significance and forge a commitment in discerning God’s desired future for you.
Being chosen empowers your identity as a son or daughter of God. It makes obedience and submission more and more a delight, and not a duty. You are to be like Jesus when He said: “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to accomplish His work.” (John 4:34) To be chosen is to be called into an authentic relationship and friendship with God. Apart from God, you can do nothing but with God, all things are possible for one who believes.
Knowing that I am chosen by God, how will that change my view of self? And what am I able to accomplish in my life?
