20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.
Jude 1:20-21, English Standard Version
The Apostle Jude wrote his epistle to warn believers to beware of false teachers who preached against the literal return of our Lord. He told them to earnestly fight for the faith. That is, to make an effort to keep the victorious truth of the gospel alive within their households and community.
Jude described the deceitful practices of these beguiling and ungodly teachers to the believers. He then encouraged them to build their faith and confidence through an authentic relationship with the Trinue God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
It is good to explore how you can relate differently to each person of the Godhead.
First, you can build up your prayer life by praying in the Holy Spirit (also known praying in tongues). It is medically proven that there are health benefits when one prays in tongues. Praying in the Spirit also encompasses Spirit-led prayers that shift paradigms and pushes boundaries towards the Kingdom of God. We can see this in Acts 4:24-30 where the early church experienced increased faith and fervour after they had prayed in the Spirit.
Secondly, you can protect your spiritual walk by abiding in the love of God. Please put aside any teachings or beliefs that make you doubt or query God’s love for you. Be fully persuaded by the truth that nothing can ever separate you from God’s love because God is love and His love endures forever. It is only by keeping yourself in God’s perfect love that you receive and manifest the grace to overcome all fears.
Thirdly, you can grow and develop your faith by finding hope and not lose sight in the soon return of our Lord. It can be very confusing with all the different teachings on the end-times. The most helpful approach is—to not let “watching the signs” take a bigger place in your life than your relationship with Jesus.
You will find having a healthy relationship with the Trinity keeps you sharp, strong and steady for every season of life.
Application: What is the Holy Spirit saying to me from today’s scripture reading? How does understanding the role of the Trinity encourage me in my spiritual health and growth?
