On the day Jesus entered Jerusalem, thousands of lambs specially that were bred in Bethlehem were also brought in to be sacrificed on the day of the Passover. According to the Law of Moses, it was necessary for the Jewish leaders to examine the Passover lambs over a few days to make sure they had no blemishes or sickness of any kind.
In parallel, Jesus was questioned and tested by the same Jewish leaders during that final week leading up to His death on the cross. They were not convinced that Jesus was really the Messiah and, even though He stood up to their tests, they remained unmoved and were looking for reasons to accuse Him.
The good thing is God found no fault in Jesus but ascertained that He is absolutely perfect in every way as the spotless Lamb of God to save everyone. And if you put your faith in what Jesus did on the cross for you, you have the blessing and benefit of a cleansed conscience.
Consider these words of the Apostle Paul:
13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
A cleansed conscience tells you that you are no longer guilty of sin and you no longer need to feel guilty, for all your wrongdoing have been washed by the blood of Jesus. Guilt will produce dead works that bear no fruit. And if your Christian life is driven by guilt, you are not living by faith in what Christ has already done. Then your faith is characterised by rules and regulations and not by Christ!
Knowing you have a cleansed conscience makes a world of difference in how you live and in the way you worship and serve God. It frees you to partner with God’s supernatural grace and power to overcome sinful habits because you are no longer hampered by any condemning thoughts or fearful ideas of what God may do to you for your failing and weakness. This grace makes repentance certain and restful.
If you are still plagued by guilt and doubt, look to Jesus and see Him in His full glory and let Him heal your heart again with His most amazing grace and love.
Can I recognise a voice of a cleansed conscience in my daily life?
