In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
Romans 8:26-27 (NIV)
Our prayers are always heard in the presence of the Trinity.
Prayers are lost or wasted. Even when we may feel that God is not responding to our requests, He is in fact listening and does not miss a single word.
How does the Trinity play a role in our prayers?
Praying is part of our fellowship with God, and the more we pray, the more we experience God. Praying isn't just about telling God what we need, it's about allowing God to speak to us and open us up to a deeper understanding of our friendship and relationship with Him.
Each member of the Trinity contributes to our prayer life.
It is through the finished work of the Son that we have full access to the Father's throne of grace. We have a heightened sense of expectancy, knowing that we can expect mercy and grace to help us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16). The Son qualified us to receive all of God's promises (1 Corinthians 1:20). This is why we pray “in the name of Jesus”— His name is what grants us access to God and all the promises made to us by the Father (2 Peter 1:4).
When we are uncertain of what to pray and are afraid to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us in our weaknesses (Romans 8:26). He takes our impoverished prayers and transforms them into powerful prayers that that are in harmony with the Father’s will. Let’s learn to listen to the Holy Spirit and not react to the situation. The Spirit inside us is not a spirit of fear. But rather the Spirit gives us power, love and a sound mind so we can trust Him with all our fears, doubts and struggles.
When we recognize and understand the importance of the Trinity in the context of prayer, it will give us the faith and assurance we need to develop a strong prayer life.
